Freeform Technology: New Unit & Machine

Freeform Technology is a Buckinghamshire based, high quality, 5 axis machining facility, specialising in the manufacture of composite tooling for the Automotive, Marine, Motorsport, Medical and Prototyping sectors.

Freeform Technology has recently invested back into the company purchasing a new unit alongside their existing units to increase the company foot print, giving more space for manufacture and to increase their machining capabilities.

In July 2016, Freeform Technology held a survey with their clients to find out if there were any new requirements/capabilities that they would like Freeform to look into due to a lack of suppliers, or current issues with quality.

The survey showed Freeform that their customers had a requirement for Carbon Insert machining and would require new suppliers to help with the supply and quality issues. From this information, Freeform researched the process and began to trial cutting materials, investing time to improve and solidify cut strategies, also trialling and confirming the correct tooling to be used.

Following months of R&D, Freeform invested in a new DMG 60 eVo machining centre in January 2017 and began to service one client with Carbon Insert machining.

Following the success of the Carbon Insert machining, the requirements have out grown the current machine and facility in which the machine was housed. Therefore, in August 2017, Freeform took over the lease on a unit alongside their current units in Buckingham. In conjunction with this, they also invested in a DMG 65 monoBLOCK machining centre to increase their capability for carbon inserts, helping to supply new clients, and this is set to be operating in early September 2017.
